Russia-US group on anti-terrorism meets in Moscow

MOSCOW, June 20 (Itar-Tass) - A meeting of the Russian-American
interdepartmental working group on struggle against terrorism opens in
Moscow on Thursday.

The Russian side at the consultations which will last till June 20, is
represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak and the US - by
Under-Secretary of State William Burns. The American diplomat plans a
meeting with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Earlier, director of the North America department of the Russian
Foreign Ministry Igor Neverov noted that the working group is "a unique
mechanism, uniting representatives from all departments on both sides,
involved in struggle against terrorism".

"The global initiative on struggle against acts of nuclear terrorism,
which was launched in 2006 and which spread really to the world-wide
scale, is a graphic example of the joint leadership of Russia and the US
in settling urgent problems of our times," the diplomat emphasised.

Some 70 states have already united under the Russian and American
actual chairmanship in implementing a specific programme of work, aimed at
strengthening individual and collective possibilities to bar an access of
terrorists to nuclear materials.
