Uganda backs Iran’s right to nuclear technology

TEHRAN, Jan. 31 (MNA) – Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has expressed support for Iran’s right to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

During a meeting with the Iranian Majlis Speaekr Ali Larijani in Kampala on Saturday, Museveni said, “Why does the West use the nuclear energy and we cannot do that, this policy is not acceptable.”

He went on to say that the West is being encouraged by certain Third World countries to pursue their evil policies. “We should behave in a way that they (the West) are not tempted to continue their hegemony over us.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that Kampala is seriously seeking to expand ties with Tehran since Iran has made significant progress in different areas.

He added that relationship with the Islamic countries is highly important for Uganda.

Larijani said that Iran has taken great strides in the nuclear energy, noting that the country’s nuclear activities are conducted under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

However, certain Western powers cannot tolerate this fact that Asian, African and Latin American nations are making progress in science and technology, he added.

He went on to say that the two countries should take important steps to increase their ties.

The Islamic countries have great potential to utilize to help the African countries particularly Uganda, he stated.

Larijani has travelled to Uganda to attend the sixth summit of Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Kampala.
