Iran's agricultural exports to hit $3.5b

TEHRAN, Jan. 31 (MNA) – Iranian Agricultural Jihad minister stated that agricultural exports will reach $3.5 billion by the end of the current calendar year (to end March 20, 2010).
The Fourth Five-Year Development Plan (2005-2010) has set a target of $2.5 billion for the export of agricultural products, Sadeq Khalilian said.
He called better agriculture techniques the main reason behind such increase in the harvest, which resulted in more profit for the farmers and growth of 400 various products in the country.
He noted that various kinds of insurances have been devised to cover damage of liabilities for farmers, further adding that measures have been taken to improve the yield of cotton, olives, citrus fruits and, silk in the northern provinces of the country.
