Iran-Senegal to broaden cooperation on agriculture

Tehran, Jan 30, IRNA -- Senegalese Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Fatou Gaye Sarr on Saturday conferred with his Iranian counterpart Sadeq Khalilian on expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.
Khalilian called for expansion of cooperation between the two countries and said that such approach would prepare ground for export of agricultural products from Iran and create job opportunity for university students whose major was agriculture.
The Islamic Republic of Iran with huge untapped potentials could play active role in production of herbal products, animal husbandry, water management and boosting soil fertility, transfer of engineering services, mechanized agriculture, processing industries, research and education would broaden cooperation with Senegal, he said.
"Four expert groups have been formed to precisely study expansion of agricultural cooperation between Iran and Senegal."
Iran has voiced readiness to provide Senegal with tractors by setting up manufacturing and assembling line in the country, Khalilian said.
He said that Iran is also ready to broaden cooperation with Senegal in the fields of fisheries.
The Senegalese minister, for his part, highlighted role of Iran and Senegal in Asian and African continents and said during the visit, she is to follow up implementing the agreements already signed between the two countries.
Fatou Gaye Sarr said that for the first phase of cooperation, Senegal has demanded 1,000 Iranian made tractors.
