President highlights Mideast significance

Tehran, Jan 31, IRNA – Those who are in the Middle East have the last word, as the region is the center of the world's energy and wealth, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Saturday.

He made the remarks while referring to the significance of the Middle East region in the “international equations.”

“Many countries have, unsuccessfully, tried during the past years to become a superpower in the region but they failed as they play no role at the international equations,” said the president in an address to a local gathering in Tehran.

“It is now clear that whoever dominates the Middle East can rule the entire world too,” President Ahmadinejad stressed.

He further noted that the final collapse of the world hegemonic system was approaching as it has failed to solve international problems.

“In terms of economic issues, the world hegemonic system reached a deadline while regarding political events, it failed to solve the existing problems and is no longer powerful from the military aspect,” said the president.

He stressed that the hegemonic system of the world has reached its final stage and is totally broken./end
