GOVT TO REFORMULATE GENERAL ALLOCATION FUNDS: OFFICIAL

Jakarta, June 19 (ANTARA) - The government will reformulate its general allocation funds (DAU) in the state budget so that it could share the economic burden with regional administrations following the spiraling of fuel oil prices, a spokesman said.
Head of the Finance Ministry's Fiscal Policy Agency Anggito Abimanyu said here on Thursday that the government would reformulate the DAU in order to share the economic difficulties arising from fuel price hikes with the regional governments.
"The assumption of fuel oil prices is high so that the amounts of DAU are also high," Abimanyu said.
He said that no final format had been set for the reformulation, however.
Hopefully, its format would be proposed in the 2009 financial note.
"But we will make sure that the DAU formulation will not contradict the law in force. Regional administrations also want that the DAU be reformulated," Abimanyu said.
He said that regional governments also indirectly hinted they wanted an increased subsidy in the state budget that would increase the amounts of the DAU.
"Because the subsidy burden also became a factor taken into account when calculating the DAU, the regional administrations also indirectly are trying to limit the amount of their fuel consumptions," he said.
