Pakistan man nabbed at airport with 1kg heroin in stomach

BANGKOK, Jan 29 (TNA) – A Pakistani man was arrested by Thai customs officials at Bangkok’s Suvaranbhumi International Airport Friday with 90 packets--almost one kg--heroin in his stomach.

Ahmad Shabbir was arrested during immigration procedures when customs officers believed him to be acting suspiciously and required him to pass through an X-ray scanner, finding many bags of unidentified matter in his stomach.

The detainee was ordered to a toilet to defecate and officials found 90 packages of heroin, weighing nearly one kilogramme.

The estimated street value of the heroin is some Bt2.5 million (US$75,000).

Mr Shabbir was charged with possessing and trafficking drugs and is being held at the Narcotics Suppression Bureau for further investigation, said the customs officials. (TNA)
