ALTERNATING POWER CUTS IN JAKARTA, TANGERANG UNTIL NEXT WEEK

Jakarta, June 19 (ANTARA) - State-owned electricity company PLN has scheduled alternate power cuts in Jakarta and Tangerang until next week due to disturbances in a number of power plants in the Java-Bali interconnection power network, a PLN spokesman said.
Chief Public Relations Officer of PLN for Jakarta and Tangerang distribution Azwar Lubis said here on Wednesday that the schedules for power cuts in Jakarta and its surrounding towns could be seen at the www.plnjaya.co.id site.
"But the power cuts could just be canceled once the disturbances of the power plants are overcome. The announcement of PLN's plan to conduct alternate power cuts is made just to make consumers ready," he said.
Azwar said that PLN had cut its power supplies to its customers in Jakarta and its surrounding at the average of 100 MW per day.
"On Tuesday yesterday, PLN cut 105 MW of its power supplies while today it is reducing 113 MW," he added.
Based on the schedules, the power cuts will last from 9 am to 5 pm considering the fact that peak burden is taking place during the day time.
A number of major power plants have been facing problems, namely the 800-MW Unit 8 of the Paiton steam power plant (PLTU), the 600 MW Unit 6 of the Suralaya PLTU and the 300 MW Cilacap PLTU.
