Medvedev congratulates Russian soccer players on victory.

MOSCOW, June 19 (Itar-Tass) - Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the
Russian soccer national, coaches and Russian fans on the squad's
qualification for quarterfinals of the European Football Championship, the presidential press service reported.
The Russian national with the score of two to naught outplayed the
Swedish team and qualified for quarterfinals of the tournament for the
first time in the history of the European Football Championship.
The Russian national has never reached quarterfinals in its history.
Charges of coach Oleg Romantsev could not get out of their group in the first tournament in 1996 (united CIS team played in 1992). Georgy Yartsev's squad played in a similar way in 2004, while in 2000, the Russian team was trounced at the very start of the championship.
The Soviet national, coached by Valery Lobanovsky at the 1988 European championship, reached the final of the championship where it was overpowered with the 0-2 score by the Dutch national.
