Cahill still getting better, says Moyes
Everton manager David Moyes claimed Tim Cahill had taken his game to another level
after the Socceroos midfielder starred in his side's 2-0 English Premier League win
over Sunderland.
Cahill scored his first league goal in almost two months and set up another for
American Landon Donovan at Goodison Park as the Toffees continued their revival and
climbed to ninth spot after a poor start to the season.
Moyes said after the match he thought Cahill had become an even better player in the
past month despite not finding the net with his usual regularity.
And he expected Cahill's third goal of the season would be followed by many more as
Everton looked to continue their ascent up the standings.
"I think Tim Cahill has come on," Moyes told Everton's official website.
"I think his game has improved in the last month and he just needs a couple of goals
to go with it.
"His goal tonight was the first and hopefully he's got more of them to come."
Everton needed only seven minutes to take the lead through Cahill.
After making good progress down the left, Leighton Baines cut the ball back for
Marouane Fellaini who, in turn, sent in a cross to the near post.
Cahill met it with a clever flicked header that found the far corner of Craig
Gordon's net for his first league goal since he scored against Tottenham on December
6.
Baines and Cahill were both involved in Everton's second with the defender punting a
long ball forward and Cahill heading it into the path of Donovan, who beat Gordon
from the edge of the area with a low left-foot drive.
It was the United States international's first goal since joining Everton earlier
this month on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy.
"The games he's started have been Arsenal and Man City, who are two of the better
teams in the country really, and I thought he played really well in those games,"
Moyes said of Donovan.
"He's got a great goal-scoring record in America if you look at it. He's got a great
record for his national team ... If he can add us a goal or two that would be
great."
