MT RAUNG SHOWS SIGNS OF INCREASED ACTIVITY

Banyuwangi, June 18 (ANTARA) - Mount Raung in the eastern part of Indonesia's Java island has shown signs of increased activity in the past week, spewing smoke and ash.
The volcano had several times spewed clouds of smoke, Balok Suryadi, an officer of the Mt Raung monitoring post at Sumber Arum village in Banyuwangi district, said on Wednesday.
"At least two clouds of smoke occurred on Thursday (June 12) and Friday (June 13). It is likely the volcano is still spewing clouds of smoke and ash as its activity can not be clearly monitored from the Mount Raung monitoring post," he said.
But he added such clouds of smoke and ash were a routine phenomenon that occurred every year.
