BAKU TO HOST CONFERENCE ON PROTECTION OF CULTURAL PROPERTY DURING CONFLICTS

Baku, 27 January (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will co-organize today a conference on “Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflicts”.
The event will bring together Azeri and international experts, including members of the ICRC`s mission in the country.
The participants will hold discussions on the possibility of including the issue of protection of cultural property in the agenda of international humanitarian law, outline the goals of protecting cultural property during armed conflicts and explore ways of preventing the violation of principles of cultural property.
Culture and tourism minister Abulfaz Garayev will deliver key remarks at the forum to emphasize what the Azeri government had been doing to protect cultural property across the country.
Garayev will also highlight the issue of destruction by Armenians of Azerbaijani cultural monuments in the result of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
