G-G's Aussie Day address focuses on kids

The governor-general has used her official Australia Day address to thank the public
for "all that you do with our children".
Quentin Bryce began her nationally televised speech by telling viewers she was at
Parramatta West Public School in Sydney.
"The students and I have been reading a book together and chatting," Ms Bryce said.
The pupils were from 23 countries and spoke 23 languages, she said.
"They are the fresh glow of modern Australia that I see emerging in the playgrounds
and classrooms of the cities, towns and remote communities that I visit everywhere."
Ms Bryce said the students were Australia's future leaders, workers, carers and
custodians.
Adults had a responsibility to teach them about "equality, justice, inclusion,
compassion, about freedom from violence, abuse and intimidation on the streets and
at home," the governor-general said.
She finished by addressing viewers as "my friends".
"On this Australia Day 2010, my message is of heartfelt gratitude for all that you
do with our children to preserve and progress a strong and capable Australia."
