G-8 summit important step towards cardinal decisions-Fukuda.
Tokyo, June 18 (Itar-Tass) - The G-8 summit, which is to be held in
July, will not yield any cardinal decisions on problems of global economy, but it will be an important step in this direction.
This is the view of Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, which he expressed during the Tuesday interview, granted here to the "Moscow Club", an organisation of leaders of the key news agencies of the world.
The meeting took place in the course of the preparations for the G-8 summit, which will be held on Hokkaido from July 7- 9 and is to be presided by Japan.
"It is impossible for global economy to become stable right after our
meeting," the premier stated. "Of course, the adoption of some sort of
resolute measures (at the summit) would be very much desirable, but does
not appear realistic," he noted. "Our July meeting will be only a step in
this direction," Fukuda noted, adding that the summit of the key
industrial powers would "be, in any case, a very important meeting".
The summit is expected to devote principal attention during the
discussion of economic problems to the growing price of commodities and
raw materials, and to the destabilisation of the financial system due to
the mortgage credit crisis in the United States, the prime minister added.
"Of course, the problem of the cost of crude oil will also be broached as,
well as that of the high cost of grain and foodstuffs in general," he
noted. "It is necessary to release some sort of an appeal to map out the
way to which we should adhere," the premier stated.
The "Moscow Club" was founded on the initiative of Itar-Tass in 2006.
Taking part in the Tuesday interview were heads of the Italian ANSA and
the British Reuters, presidents of the Associated Press DPA, and the Kyodo
News Agency. Itar-Tass Director-General Vitaly Ignatenko represented
Russia.
