Rafsanjani: West seeks any pretext to accuse Iran

Tehran, June 18, IRNA - Chairman of the Expediency Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Tuesday that West, which considers the Islamic Republic of Iran as a big hurdle in attaining its goals in the Middle East region, tries to invent new pretexts against this nation.

Speaking to a group of martyr's families, he said the current
circumstances are very 'sensitive' and the Islamic system is now
threatened by numerous political and economic pressures.

After the September 11 incident, the US put on its agenda a new policy
known as the 'greater Middle East', but they later realized that
establishment of democracy in Middle East countries runs counter to
their interests and they dropped the idea, he said.

Unity among Muslims is the biggest obstacle for the enemies, he said
adding, "We should forge unity to safeguard the interests of world
Muslims." - End
