CoE COMMITTEE OF MINISTERS` CHAIRPERSON REPLIES QUESTION BY AZERI MP
Strasbourg, January 26 (AzerTAc). Chairperson of the CoE Committee of Ministers Micheline Calmy-Rey, after delivering a report at PACE winter session, replied to questions by parliamentarians, including member of the Azerbaijani delegation Gultakin Hajibayli.
Hajibayli said on December 23 municipal elections were held in Azerbaijan where more than 700 thousand people driven out from their homelands by the Armenian aggressors. They, obviously, could not participate in the elections because of their lack of suffrage. She asked whether the Council of Europe couldn’t demonstrate courage to ensure fulfillment of its resolutions on solving problems of IDPs in Azerbaijan.
In reply, Micheline Calmy-Rey said the issue on return of the Azerbaijani IDPs` to their lands was dealt with by the OSCE Minsk Group.
She pointed out the Council of Europe does not intend to create another format to settle the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict. “The Organization can only support the OSCE Minsk Group`s work.”
Micheline Calmy-Rey also added CoE tries to use its mechanism of influence to contribute to resolving the dispute, but did not elaborate the details.
