Iran’s atomic chief, Russian ambassador discuss nuclear co-op

TEHRAN, Jan. 26 (MNA) – Director of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) and Russian Ambassador to Tehran whose country is building the Bushehr nuclear reactor in southern Iran held talks over nuclear cooperation on Monday.
AEOI chief Ali Akbar Salehi and Ambassador Alexander Sadovnikov reviewed technical issues in nuclear cooperation, the AEOI spokesman told the Mehr News Agency.
In a recent interview with the ISNA news agency, Salehi said that the Bushehr nuclear power plant will surely be started up in the first half of the next Iranian year which begins on March 21. The chief of Russia's state nuclear corporation also made similar statement on Thursday.
"2010 is the year of Bushehr," Rosatom chief Sergei Kiriyenko told reporters after a cabinet meeting in Moscow.
In late February 2009, Iranian and Russian nuclear officials carried out a test run of the nuclear power plant, which is located just outside the Persian Gulf port city of Bushehr.
Moscow agreed to build the nuclear power plant in 1995 and the project was supposed to be completed in July 1999, but the start-up of the reactor has been postponed several times.
