UK`S INTERNET PORTAL POSTS ARTICLE ON 20 JANUARY TRAGEDY
Baku, January 25 (AzerTAc). UK`s thelondonpost.net internet news portal has made available a story entitled “Azerbaijan remembered Victims of 20th January”, which dealt with the bloody January events.
“Azerbaijanis all around the world are commemorating the victims of the “Black 20 January” tragedy taken place in 1990. Being one of the most brutal killings against civilians in the history of humankind the tragedy happened as a result of the Soviet troops storming Baku , Azerbaijan . Later night on 19 January 1990 Soviet armed forces reinforced with modern heavy military equipments including tanks were ordered to storm Baku as an act of oppression against the people rising up for the independence of Azerbaijan,” the story reads.
According to the article, the atrocities committed not only failed in subduing the people and erode the idea of regaining the independence but they led the people to further get united around the idea of sovereignty. Azerbaijan duly regained its independence in 1991 and has found its well-deserved place in the international community thanks to successful implementation of national leader Heydar Aliyev`s strategy.
