TV chef Beer wins Senior Aussie award

TV chef Maggie Beer, whose joyful approach to cooking and eating has earned her many
faithful viewers, has been named as Senior Australian of the Year.
Ms Beer, who lives in Nuriootpa in South Australia, co-hosted the ABC's The Cook and
the Chef program.
She is a fan of preservative-free gourmet foods and says she wants people to
reconnect with what they eat.
Ms Beer was named as Senior Australian of the Year by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in a
ceremony in Canberra on Monday evening.
Before the verdict was in, Ms Beer told AAP that if she won she would stage a "food
celebration" which would start with blue swimmer crab with herbs from the garden.
Fettucini ribbon pasta would follow and it would all be washed down with Barossa
Valley wines.
