Senior Officials of Six Countries and UNODC Conclude Meetings on Drug
Vientiane, June 17 (KPL) - Senior officials from the six signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Drug Control and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) last week concluded a three-day round of bilateral and multilateral meetings on drug control in Vientiane.
The six countries include Cambodia, China, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
Senior Officials Committee meetings were held in Vientiane from 23-25 June 2008. H.E. Mr. Soubanh Srithirath, Minister to the Presidential Palace, Chairman of the Lao National Committee on Drugs Control and Supervision, chaired the closing ceremony.
At the meetings, the senior officials discussed a number of project ideas and new initiatives on drug control in the region such as treatment and rehabilitation from Amphetamine-Type Stimulants (ATS) abuse, demand reduction policy development, capacity building for opium reduction.
