AZERI CHESS PLAYER BECOMES EUROPEAN CHAMPION

Baku, 17 June (AzerTAj) - Azerbaijani chess player Gunay Mammadzade became European champion.
She won the European championship among the children under 8 in Batumi, Georgia, getting 8 points from 9 games. She defeated Turkish Chagla Sinem and left behind Georgian player Nino Jalagonia, who garnered same points just with the additional indications.
Other Azerbaijani representative Khanim Balajayeva took 5th place among 17 players with 6 points.
Azerbaijani player Shamshad Akhundov was 4th among 36 players in the boy’s tournament. He gained 5.5 points from 9 games and was behind of the Turkish Temizkan Denizcan for 1.5 points.
Azerbaijan’s other two representatives finished the championship with 5 points. Chingiz Maharramli took 6th and Abdulla Gadimli –
12th place for the additional indications.
