SOME ECONOMIC POLICIES TO BE NEGLECTED : LEGISLATOR
Jakarta, June 17 (ANTARA) - A legislator has predicted that some of the government's economic policies would be neglected with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani's appointment to the concurrent post of acting coordinating minister for economic affairs.
"I am concerned (about the finance minister also holding the post of chief economic minister) because she has a lot of homework to accomplish as head of the finance ministry," Dradjat H. Wibowo of the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission XI which deals with national development planning said here on Tuesday.
He cited as an example the Bank Indonesia (BI) emergency liquidity assistance (BLBI) case which was still unresolved. The finance ministry was given the task of settling the BLBI cases through civil law suits.
"The civil law suits to solve the BLBI problem have been left to the finance ministry to carry out but until now the ministry has not made any progress in the matter while House Commission XI has also been asked to handle it," he said.
Wibowo said the other unfinished task of the finance minister was reforming her ministry's bureaucracy for which the ministry had received huge amounts of additional remunerations, he said.
"Not to mention her obligation to attend each House Commission XI hearing which is held almost every day. So, with her homework as finance minister piling up while also having to oversee economic affairs as acting coordinating minister, it is not impossible that some economic policies will be neglected," he said.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has officially appointed Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati as acting chief economic minister to replace Boediono.
"The president has signed a decree appointing Finance Minister Sri Mulyani as acting coordinating minister for economic affairs to replace Boediono," Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi said over the weekend.
The president signed the decree on Thursday night last week, Silalahi said.
Boediono was installed as Bank Indonesia (the central bank) governor on May 22, replacing Burhanuddin Abdullah.
