TEHRAN, Jan. 23 (MNA) – Iran has exported more than 10 million tons of non-oil goods worth over $2.568 billion to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states during the nine-month period ended December 21, 2009.
The amount shows a 24 percent increase in terms of value and a 79 percent rise in terms of volume compared to the same period last year.
Carpet, plastic products, fruits, and shampoo are among the major exported items to the SCO.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental mutual-security organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Except for Uzbekistan, the other countries had been members of the Shanghai Five, founded in 1996; after the inclusion of Uzbekistan in 2001, the members renamed the organization.
