Police to reconstruct slaying of Indian

Slain Indian student Nitin Garg's final moments will be re-enacted in Melbourne on
Saturday night in a bid to catch his killer.
Homicide squad detectives plan to return to Yarraville in Melbourne's west to
retrace the 21-year-old's last steps before he was stabbed to death on January 2.
An information caravan has been operating in Somerville Road for several days
displaying pictures of Mr Garg and the type of jacket he was wearing the night he
was killed.
Police will re-enact his final moments about 9.30pm (AEDT).
A man dressed as Mr Garg will walk from the Yarraville Railway Station and cut
across CJ Cruickshank Park along a metre-wide dirt path on the eastern side of the
park to the Hungry Jack's fast food restaurant.
Mr Garg, an Australian permanent resident originally from Punjab state in northern
India, was on his way to work at the restaurant when he was attacked.
He staggered into the restaurant with stab wounds before collapsing.
Detective Senior Sergeant David Snare described the progress in the investigation as
steady.
He appealed to anyone in the area of the park on January 2 between 9.30pm and
10.30pm to contact police.
Det Snr Sgt Snare said it was inappropriate and premature to suggest the attack may
have been racially motivated.
He said operational matters were behind the decision to wait three weeks until
re-enacting Mr Garg's final moments.
Mr Garg's slaying follows recent attacks on Indians in Melbourne that have put
Australia's multi-billion-dollar international student sector at risk.
Indian student enrolments have fallen 46 per cent across the country in recent
months, while international student enrolments are down by 20 per cent overall.
