PM optimistic about improved revenue collection

BANGKOK, Jan 21 (TNA) – Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjaijva on Wednesday announced that revenue collection had gradually improved and would surpass its target by almost Bt200 billion if the government continues to collect it at the same level as in the past three months.

He said the increased revenue collection affirmed the country’s strong economic recovery because tax collection was higher than targeted in all categories.

Regarding the stronger baht, the premier said Thailand had not lost its export competitiveness given the current level of the currency exchange rate and the inflation rate.

He said export figures are considered sound. If compared with the movement of the US dollar and other currencies, the Thai baht is seen moving in the moderate range.

Mr Abhisit expressed confidence that the Bank of Thailand (BoT) would remain able to manage the fluctuation of the baht. (TNA)
