Turkey invites Iran to regional summit on Afghanistan: source

TEHRAN, Jan. 20 (MNA) -- Iran has been invited to take part in a regional summit on Afghanistan scheduled for January 26 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Iran is currently considering the invitation, an informed source has said.

Turkey will host two regional summits on Afghanistan in the run-up to the London conference on the country on January 28.

“Turkey will be organizing a political summit on the 25th and a regional meeting on the 26th” Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Tuesday.

Afghanistan’s neighboring countries along with a number of major powers will be gathering in Istanbul to discuss the country’s various problems. The participants will also examine ways how to support Kabul to deal with its problems.

Earlier, British Foreign Minister David Miliband had invited Iran to take part in the London conference, but so far Tehran has not responded to the offer.
