Tehran slams attempts to deny Iranian history
TEHRAN, Jan. 19 (MNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast criticized some countries’ efforts to deny Iranian history.
“Some actions are carried out to deny history and the United Nations’ ratifications about the Persian Gulf,” he told reporters at a press conference on Tuesday.
He also criticized the attempts to steal the credit for Iranian historical and literary figures’ achievements by deliberately misidentifying these figures’ nationality.
“These actions are not correct. These actions are done to provide an identity to these countries, but there are other positive methods for providing them an identity.”
Iran calls for the release of national held in France
On the fate of Iranian national Majid Kakavand, who has been held in custody in France for the past ten months, he said despite the fact that there is ample evidence proving he is innocent, he is still held in detention.
“We condemn such acts and believe that these acts are carried out under political pressure,” he said.
Iran regards the continued detention of its citizen as illegal and demands that the French government release him as soon as possible, Mehmanparast stated.
The U.S. alleges that the Iranian citizen, who is currently on trial in France, is tied to companies involved in Iran’s nuclear program. But Iran has repeatedly denied the allegation.
West’s threats are repetitious
In response to remarks by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has threatened Iran with more sanctions, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said such statements by some Western officials are “repetitious”.
“We believe these approaches are not constructive,” he noted.
“Germany has made clear that if Iran’s reaction does not change, we will be working on a comprehensive package of sanctions,” Merkel said at a joint news conference in Berlin with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Reuters reported.
Iran dismisses allegations of intervention in Iraq
Mehmanparast also dismissed the claims that Iran is meddling in Iraq’s parliamentary election.
Some groups that believe the results of the election will not be in their favor are making such allegations, he said, adding that the Iraqi nation understands the motives behind these accusations.
