Tehran, Jan 18, IRNA – Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Monday that presence of foreign forces in the Persian Gulf region has led to expansion of instability in the region.
He made the remarks while addressing the 19th International Conference on the Persian Gulf which kicked off in Tehran Monday morning.
He said, “Presence of foreign powers, purchase of armaments, support for extremist groups and adding fuel to tribal and sectarian differences are among challenges leading to instability in the Persian Gulf region.”
The strategic Persian Gulf region has been invaded by extraterritorial powers in order to grasp its natural resources through establishment of insecurity and creating tensions there, the Iranian foreign minister regretted.
He reiterated that the Iranian nation was the first victim of expansionist policies of the Saddam (Hussein) regime in Iraq and its eight-year imposed war against the Islamic Republic.
The presence of foreign forces in Iraq in the past six years has imposed several problems on the regional states, he said.
Mottaki further referred to the Zionists aggressive policies as the main problems facing the regional countries.
Experts from 15 countries including Kuwait, Oman, Lebanon, Egypt, Romania, France, Germany, China, India and Russia are taking part in the two-day conference hosted by Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
