GERMANY APPROVES APPEAL OF PRESIDENT

Ulaanbaatar,/MONTSAME/ A member of the German Bundestag Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid Mrs Katrin Werner has issued a statement on appreciating the decision made by Ts.Elbegdorj on refusing the capital punishment in Mongolia.
According to the statement, Mrs Katrin Werner said the United Nations does not accept the death penalty; and she considers that the death penalty trespass upon people's natural rights and reputation. She said that the appeal by the President Elbegdorj was an important step to promote the UN's position. "As of present, it is possible to execute the death penalty in Mongolia by 59 kinds of crime. Left-wing parties in the world appeals to invalidate the punishment. So, I wish not only Asian countries but also other states follow the good example of Mongolia," she stressed.
Meanwhile, a spokesman of the Bundestag's Left Party gave a report to media on Thursday on the decision of the Mongolian President. "The Mongolian President Elbegdorj appealed to his country's people and parliament for abolishing the capital punishment in his country. The exemplary step of the President is a distinct expression to respect the human rights in his country," the spokesman said.
