'Enemy seeking to create rift between armed forces, nation'
ISFAHAN, Jan. 16 (MNA) – The former IRGC commander has said the enemy has been planning to create a division between the armed forces and the nation.
Brigadier General Yahya Safavi, who acts as senior advisor of the Supreme Leader, said currently the most important need of the country is calm, unity, and moderation.
The former commander of the Iranian Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) made the remarks during a ceremony held in Isfahan to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Ahmad Kazemi and some other IRGC officers.
Ahmad Kazemi was the IRGC ground forces commander who died in a plane crash in 2006.
“The armed forces gain their power from the nation, so the enemy tries to divide the nation and the armed forces. The Sepah (IRGC) and Basij are the children of this nation,” Safavi stated.
He also said “extremism” should be avoided.
He said that the unity can be achieved by relying on pillars of the Constitution and the Velayat-e Faqih (rule of the supreme jurisprudent), emphasizing that the Supreme Leader has always stated that “don’t easily call some people as hypocrite or anti-Velayat-e Faqih.”
Pointing to the June presidential election, he said it was among the most enthusiastic elections held ever since the Islamic Revolution. He said the massive turnout came as surprise to the world.
However, he said, the post-election incidents came as a bitter experience to the nation.
He went on to say that three groups caused the unrest in the country: first, those who were seeking power, second, those who had planned to undermine the system and create division in the society, and third, those people who intentionally or unintentionally served as the “puppets” of the two first groups.
The former military commander said the Zionist regime of Israel and the Western powers, especially the U.S., along with some anti-revolutionary groups took advantage of the situation and incited riots in the country.
Pointing to the recent disrespect to some clerics and marja taqlids (Shia clerics who are regarded as sources of emulation), he said, clerics and marja taqlids should be respected otherwise the pillars of the establishment will be undermined.
On the recent assassination of the Iranian nuclear physicist, he said undoubtedly the American and Israeli intelligence services were involved in the incident.
