TURKEY-ARMENIA RAPPROCHEMENT RUNS IN PARALLEL WITH NAGORNO-KARABAKH TALKS, ERDOGAN

Ankara, January 16 (AzerTAc). The process of normalizing relationship between Turkey and Armenia runs in parallel with efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Turkey closed its border with Armenia in support to Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”
He added “before re-opening the border and for ensuring peace in the region, first and foremost, the dispute must be settled”.
According to the Premier, the Turkey-Armenia rapprochement can be achieved easily if “Armenians withdraw from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan”.
Erdogan underlined as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia should play more “active role” in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as official Moscow has more influence over Yerevan.
“I told this President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin during my visit to Moscow, too.”
The Turkish Prime Minister also pointed out “if the co-chairs take more vigorous efforts they can achieve any result”.
