NO POINT IN DISCUSSING PROTOCOLS BY TURKISH PARLIAMENT, TURKISH MP
Ankara, January 16 (AzerTAc). “It is better to postpone inclusion of the Turkey-Armenia protocols into the agenda since there is no point of doing it now,” said Murad Mercan, chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly`s foreign affairs commission.
“Submission of the Turkey-Armenia protocols for discussion is going to be a waste of time since the document is likely to be rejected by the Turkish parliamentary commission," he added
He said Armenia had submitted the protocols for discussion at its Constitutional Court in line with its own laws. Armenia`s parliamentary commission received the protocols but it is unknown when it is going to discuss it, he pointed out.
“The people of Turkey are very sensitive towards solving problems between Azerbaijan and Armenia. From this point of view, resolution of the conflict can speed up ratification of protocols,” he said.
“If I, commission chairman, put these protocols onto the agenda, they would face a limbo. In this case, these protocols will be returned to the government and, resubmitted to the parliament after consideration. To prevent this, I want Armenia-Azerbaijan relations to be normalized and concrete steps to be taken to solve the problem,” said Mercan.
