Iran dispatches relief supplies for Haitian quake victims

Tehran, Jan 16, IRNA – A plane carrying 30 tons of relief supplies for the Haitian earthquake victims left Tehran for Haiti, Central American state, Saturday morning, it was announced here today.

An official at Iran’s Red Crescent Society told IRNA that the relief assistance included tents, washing powder, sugar, canned food, kitchen utensils and other needed articles.

A major magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit Haiti on Tuesday, collapsing buildings in the capital Port-au-Prince and burying residents under rubble.

At least 50,000 people have been killed and 1.5 million left homeless in the Caribbean nation./end
