About 10 road infrastructure projects

HCM City (VNA) – About 10 road infrastructure projects will be completed and
open before Tet (lunar new year), HCM City People’s Committee chairman Le Hoang
Quan said on Jan. 13.

Quan said the projects would include the Can Gio district’s Rung Sac Street
upgrade project, the North-South Highway , the road connecting Ba Chiem
intersection to Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park , Nam Ky Khoi nghia-Nguyen Van
Troi streets.

The five bridges to open will be Rach Dia, Phuoc Kieng, Ba Chiem, Dong Dien and
Thu Thiem, while the Sai Gon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT) port in Nha Be
district will also be inaugurated.

The city will break ground on projects including Nha Be – Can Gio water
supply system, Cu Chi district’s Rach Tra Bridge, the road leading to District
2’s Thu Thiem New Urban Zone as wells as public housing, dorms and houses for
people with low income.

Quan said the opening of the traffic infrastructure works would be crucial to
local residents during Tet and would be a good start for the new year’s
socio-economic development.

He urged related agencies, districts and project authorities to keep up with their
project schedules.

The newly built East-West Highway would be named after the late Prime Minister
Vo Van Kiet before April 30, he told the meeting.

Meanwhile, to 19 footbridges will come into operation by the 1,000 th anniversary
of Thang Long-Hanoi in October this year, according to the Hanoi Department of
Transport.

On Jan. 14, the department held an opening ceremony foe one such footbridge that
passes over Tran Dai Nghia street, in front of the National Economic
University entrance.

The bridge can be easily assembled/disassemble and moved to another place when it
is no longer necessary there, It is hoped that the bridge will enhance the safety
of pedestrians, particularly local residents and students of the National
Economic University and the Hanoi University of Technology.

The local cost of the bridge was 1.98 billion VND (107,000 USD).

The department, in cooperation with relevant agencies, has carried out field work
to locate suitable sites for new bridges. Areas with high traffic flow which may
be not safe for pedestrians are a priority.

This is one of the ways the department is using to try and alleviate traffic jams
and accidents in the city.-Enditem
