CASPIAN NATIONS TO DISCUSS STURGEON FISHING BAN

Baku, January 15 (AzerTAc). A moratorium on fishing for sturgeon will top the agenda of the 31st meeting of the commission for Caspian water bioresources to take place in Iran in late January.
This proposal to impose a moratorium came from President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in April last year during Iranian President`s official visit to Kazakhstan.
Reports from foreign media suggest that the Kazakh delegation brought up this issue at the commission`s meeting last year but delegations of other Caspian nations asked for a time-out to take it up with respective authorities.
In response to Kazakh side`s proposal, the Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources stated the full ban on industrial fishing for sturgeons will be possible after concluding an agreement on measures to increase sturgeon stock and its protection. Azerbaijan has voluntarily gave up its bastard and stellate sturgeons catch quota
