MONGOLIA IS HOME TO 44 MILLION LIVESTOCK



Ulaanbaatar, /MONTSAME/ According to the preliminary results of the 2009 livestock census, 44.0 mln. livestock was counted, of which 277.1 thous.camel, 2,221.3 thous.horse, 2,599.3 thous.cattle, 19,274.7 thous.sheep and 19,651.5 thous.goat.
The total number of livestock increased by 1.7 percent or 735.5 thous.heads compared with the previous year, of which camel by 4.0 percent or 10.7 thous., horse by 1.6 percent or 34.4 thous., cattle by 3.8 percent or 95.9 thous., sheep by 5.0 percent or 912.4 thous increased, but goat decreased by 1.6 percent or 317.9 thous.
As of 2009, 1,732.9 thousand adult animals were lost equalling to 4.0 percent of total livestock at the beginning of the year. Compared with the previous year, the number of losses of adult animals increased 92.3 thousand heads or 5.6 percent. Out of losses of adult animals, 90.0 percent was camels, cattles and horses and 10.0 percent was the goat and sheep.
