Indonesia certifies 300kg of live blood clams for Thailand export

Ternate, North Maluku (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s quarantine agency assisted in the inspection and certification of 300 kilograms of live blood cockles for export to Thailand, ensuring compliance with international quarantine standards, officials said Monday.

Head of North Maluku Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine, Sugeng Prayogo said the team verified product quality to prevent rejection or a Notification of Non-Compliance (NNC) from the importing country.

Quarantine officers conducted inspections at PT Mitra Jaya Malut’s Fish Quarantine Facility in the early hours of Feb. 21. The shipment departed the next morning, Feb. 22.

Before issuing the export health certificate, officials rechecked the packaged cockles at Sultan Babullah Airport cargo to confirm they met Thailand’s import requirements.

Sugeng said both physical and clinical inspections were performed, along with verification of all export documentation, to ensure product safety and quality.

The process was integrated with the Directorate General of Customs using the Single Submission (SSM) QC system, streamlining inspection and certification for efficiency.

“Consistent oversight from production to export is key to maintaining trust in global markets,” Sugeng said.

He emphasized the commitment of quarantine authorities, exporters, and related agencies to safeguarding the safety and quality of North Maluku’s seafood products internationally.

The shipment to Thailand is part of repeated exports, reflecting North Maluku’s marine potential and the ability to meet international food safety standards consistently.

Sugeng said sustained monitoring and certification could boost live blood cockle exports, contributing positively to regional economic growth and strengthening Indonesia’s position in global seafood markets.
