The US Chargé d’Affaires Affirms His Country's Support For Iraq Regarding The ISIS Prisoners Issue

Baghdad / NINA / -The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Bahr Al-Uloom, received on Sunday evening the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Iraq, Joshua Harris.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting discussed Iraqi–U.S. relations and ways to enhance cooperation in line with the mutual interests of both countries. The talks also addressed the upcoming meeting of the International Coalition to Defeat ISIS, scheduled to be held on Monday evening in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

The statement noted that the meeting aims to coordinate international efforts to support Iraq regarding the temporary transfer of ISIS detainees from detention facilities in northeastern Syria.

Both sides underscored the growing role of Iraq as a key pillar in safeguarding security and stability in the region and globally, emphasizing the importance of concerned countries repatriating their nationals and contributing to the necessary financial funding for these measures.

For his part, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires reaffirmed his government’s full support for Iraq in this regard.

The statement added that the conference will be chaired by the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister, with the participation of the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, as well as representatives of several concerned countries./ End
