Kyrgyzstan to build smog-battelling plants

Bishkek, Feb. 5, 2026. /Kabar/. Deputy Cholpon Esenamanova voiced complaints about smog from residents of Kara-Balta at Jogorku Kenesh.
She noted that the combined heat and power plant, landfill, Junda Oil Refinery, and Asia Steel and Tekstil enterprises pollute the air in Kara-Balta, causing children to frequently become ill.
First Deputy Cabinet head Daniyar Amangeldiyev noted that operations at the Asia Steel plant have been suspended until the violations are rectified.
"Cabinet resolution has been adopted banning the import and use of fine coal, and with the support of the president, $2 million has been allocated from his fund to build enrichment plants," he said.
Deputy inquired about how many homes in Kara-Balta and Kaindy are gasified, as well as when the Zhayil, Panfilov, and Talas districts will be gasified.
Azamat Aldayarov, a representative of Gazprom Kyrgyzstan LLC, responded that work has begun in Poltavka village as part of the general gasification plan. The upper zone of Kara-Balta is not yet gasified, although the plan is to have it by 2030.
"There is a capacity issue at the gas distribution station. Two billion soms are needed to resolve this issue," he said.
