Kyrgyzstan identifies water security as key global issue

Bishkek, Feb. 5, 2026 /Kabar/. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic – Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev took part in a ministerial roundtable held as part of the World Governments Summit in Dubai, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic said.

Speaking at the event, Bakyt Torobaev noted that the world is facing systemic climate, water, food, and social challenges. In these circumstances, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires a transition to comprehensive and long-term risk management.

Particular attention was paid to the problem of water resource scarcity in the context of climate change.

The Kyrgyz Republic, as a mountainous country that forms the source of Central Asian rivers, bears a special responsibility for the sustainability of the region's aquatic ecosystems and consistently raises water security issues in international forums.
