President Kim Il Sung and Song of River Amnok

Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Among the songs that President Kim Il Sung preferred to sing all his life is the "Song of the River Amnok".
This song was created after the March First Popular Uprising (March 1, 1919) which was launched by the Korean people against the colonial rule of Japanese imperialism.
In January 1925, the President heard the news that his father had been arrested by the Japanese imperialists again and left Mangyongdae, his birthplace, at the age of thirteen. He walked 250 miles and reached Phophyong.
On February 3, he made a grim resolve that he would not return home unless Korea became independent, singing the "Song of the River Amnok" on the frozen river near the Phophyong Ferry.
Afterwards he organized and waged an armed struggle against the Japanese imperialists. When he led the unit to come out into the homeland by crossing the River Amnok in August 1938, he sang this song again at a secret camp not far from Phophyong.
He visited the Phophyong Ferry in September 1991 and sang the song again, recollecting with deep emotion the day 66 years ago. -0-
