Hyundai Mobis forms global alliance for next-gen vehicle display technology

SEOUL, Feb. 3 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Mobis Co., South Korea's largest auto parts maker, said Tuesday it has formed a global alliance with three companies to jointly develop a next-generation technology that will turn the entire windshield of a vehicle into a head-up display.

The partnership, dubbed the "Quad Alliance," includes Germany's Zeiss, a provider of optical technologies; Germany's tesa, a global manufacturer of adhesive solutions; and France's Saint-Gobain Sekurit, a leading automotive glass producer in Europe, the company said in a press release.

Hyundai Mobis said it will be responsible for the overall system design and integration of the holographic windshield display (HWD) system, including the image-projection unit, utilizing its expertise in vehicle interface and display technologies.

The four companies plan to collaborate on the mass production of HWDs, an advanced display technology that uses a vehicle's front windshield as a large screen. The system allows drivers to view key driving information without taking their eyes off the road.

The partnership aims to establish a fully integrated supply chain covering the entire process, from optical design and holographic film replication to system assembly, the company said.

"We will work closely with our global partners throughout the mass production phase to strengthen our technological competitiveness and firmly establish ourselves as a leader in innovative automotive technologies in the global market," said Jung Soo-kyung, executive vice president of Hyundai Mobis.
