Sports Minister Hopes Fans Will Continue To Support Malaysian Football

SUNGAI PETANI (Kedah, Malaysia), Feb 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari hopes local fans will not be demoralised by the ongoing crisis in the Football Association Malaysia (FAM).

"Football is one of the sports with the most number of fans, so I hope FAM can resolve the crisis properly, orderly and wisely. And I hope the fans will continue to have faith in Malaysian football,” he told reporters after observing the Thaipusam celebration at the Sri Subramaniya Swami Devasthanam Temple at Jalan Kuala Ketil near here on Sunday.

FAM have been embroiled in a crisis since September last year after the world governing body FIFA confirmed that FAM and seven players - Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Manchuca, Jodo Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal and Hector Hevel - were found to have violated Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC).

On Wednesday (Jan 28), all FAM Executive Council (Exco) members for the 2025-2029 term resigned en masse.

"I respect the decision made by the FAM Exco to resign… at the ministry's level, we hope FAM will make the best decision possible. I do not wish to say anymore than that,” said Mohammed Taufiq.
