Holy Kaaba Kiswa Complex: Precision Craftsmanship and Living Islamic Heritage

Makkah, January 02, 2026, SPA -- The King Abdulaziz Complex for the Holy Kaaba Kiswa stands out as a prominent landmark in Makkah Region, embodying a deep-rooted Islamic legacy and one of the most significant civilizational and religious testimonies in service of the Grand Mosque, while Makkah itself remains a living memory that weaves its history with faith and meticulous workmanship.
In 1397 AH, the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba Complex was relocated to new premises in Umm Al-Joud, equipped with advanced industrial machinery and fully integrated manufacturing departments, marking a pivotal turning point in the history of Kiswa production. This noble task was moved to a comprehensive facility in Makkah that relies on national expertise and modern technologies while preserving the authentic Islamic character of the craft.
The production of the Kiswa goes through several precise stages, beginning with the selection of the finest natural black silk and continuing with embroidery using gold and silver threads. Quranic verses and Islamic motifs are inscribed according to approved designs that honor the sanctity of the place.
The complex employs skilled Saudi craftsmen and technicians who perform their work with utmost dedication and sincerity, fully conscious of the responsibility involved in producing the Kiswa of the Qibla of Muslims.
The complex comprises several specialized departments, including automated and hand-weaving, laboratory, embroidery, belt, dyeing, and tailoring and sewing departments, among others. These departments work in an integrated manner to produce the annual Kiswa, which is replaced in a majestic ceremony at the beginning of each Hijri year.
The Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba Complex is not merely an industrial facility; it is also a civilizational and historical landmark that reflects the Kingdom’s care for the Two Holy Mosques. The complex has become a center of knowledge that acquaints visitors with the history of the Kiswa and the stages of its development, thereby enhancing awareness of this great Islamic heritage.
Highlighting the Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba Complex falls within the scope of the Makkah campaign, which aims to document Makkah’s historical and human landmarks, preserve their stories related to serving the Two Holy Mosques, and convey them to future generations as an integral part of Islamic and national identity.
The Kiswa of the Holy Kaaba Complex remains a testament to the union of craftsmanship and faith, as well as history and the future. Each year, the Kiswa is woven to cover the Holy Kaaba, weaving the memory of a place unlike any other and keeping Makkah present in hearts and firmly rooted in memory.
