Yemen Welcomes Malaysia's Principled Position Supporting Its Unity, Sovereignty

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 1 (Bernama) -- The Yemeni government has expressed its sincere appreciation to the Malaysian government for its principled position reaffirming its support for Yemen's unity, sovereignty, and stability.

The Embassy of Yemen in Malaysia said Malaysia’s position reflects its longstanding commitment to international peace, respect for state sovereignty, and the protection of civilian lives.

“Yemen values the balanced and principled approach of Malaysia and looks forward to continued engagement with the international community, in support of peace, stability, and humanitarian principles,” it said in a statement.

Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Dec 27, expressed Malaysia’s deep concern over the recent escalation of hostilities in Yemen, particularly the reported unilateral military movements and territorial advances by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the eastern governorates of Hadramawt and Al-Mahra.

Malaysia also reiterates its full support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government of Yemen as the legitimate authorities responsible for leading Yemen through its transitional and peacebuilding processes.

The embassy said that in recent weeks, the Yemeni leadership has closely monitored a series of unilateral military and security escalations carried out by forces affiliated with the STC in the two governorates.

“These actions were accompanied by serious violations affecting civilians, attacks on local communities and tribal groups, and disruptions to essential civilian facilities, including the suspension of commercial operations at Seiyun Airport,” it added.

It said such developments unfolded at a particularly sensitive moment when Yemen continues to face severe humanitarian challenges and an ongoing threat from the Houthi terrorist militia.

President of the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen, Dr Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, in an address on Dec 30 reaffirmed the Yemeni state’s commitment to protecting civilians, preserving social peace, and safeguarding Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

He also underscored the rejection of any military or security actions carried out outside the framework of legitimate state institutions.

“The government of the Republic of Yemen reiterates its firm commitment to national unity, the rule of law, peaceful coexistence, and the protection of civilians,” the statement read.
