UN Mission to El Fasher Reveals ‘Shocking’ and ‘Degrading’ Living Conditions for Civilians

El Fasher, December 29, 2025, SPA -- The United Nations Resident Coordinator for Sudan Denise Brown said on Monday that conditions for civilians in El Fasher, western Sudan, are “shocking,” with residents living in “degrading and unsafe” circumstances.
Brown made the remarks upon returning from El Fasher, where a mission from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) was able to enter the city on Friday for the first time in two months, following what she described as “arduous negotiations” after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took control of the city.
“These people are living in extremely precarious conditions,” Brown said. “Some are staying in abandoned buildings, while others are living in rudimentary shelters without sanitation or water. These are degrading and unsafe conditions for the people.”
