Historic Jeddah Witnesses Initial Phase of Activating 'Historic Hajj Route'

Jeddah, December 25, 2025, SPA -- As part of the Ministry of Culture’s efforts to highlight the historical and cultural heritage associated with the Hajj journey, Historic Jeddah welcomed visitors during the first phase of activating the “Historic Hajj Route.” The initiative aims to enrich the cultural and tourism experience and to highlight the role of Historic Jeddah as the principal gateway to Makkah over the centuries.
The route represents an integrated cultural and tourism experience that connects visitors with the civilizational and human values of the place. It sheds light on the historical stations through which pilgrims passed upon their arrival in Historic Jeddah, reflecting its deep historical roots and prominent position in the Hajj journey.
The route includes a number of archaeological sites and prominent mosques in Historic Jeddah, including Al-Shona archaeological site, Othman bin Affan Mosque, Al-Ma'amar Mosque, Bait Nour Wali, Bait Nassif, Souq Al-Alawi, and Al-Maghribi Mosque, before concluding at Bab Makkah, simulating the historic Hajj journey undertaken by pilgrims in the past on their way to the holy sites.
The route is part of a series of cultural tourism routes that aim to revive historical memory and strengthen Historic Jeddah's presence on the cultural tourism map. This initiative aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to enrich visitors' experience, as well as with the Ministry of Culture’s efforts to preserve historical sites and present them in a contemporary spirit.
