Commemoration Day marks enduring national pride and renewed commitment

Manama, Dec. 17 (BNA): On the occasion of the Kingdom of Bahrain's celebration of its National Day and the 26th anniversary of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s accession to the throne and the accompanying national events, the Kingdom of Bahrain commemorates Commemoration Day annually on December 17, honouring the sacrifices of fallen servicemen who fulfilled their national duties with courage and dedication, both at home and abroad.
Commemoration Day was designated by His Majesty the King as a national occasion to commemorate the sacrifices of personnel from the Bahrain Defence Force, the Ministry of Interior, the National Guard, the National Intelligence Agency, and other military and security sectors, who gave their lives while performing civil, military, and humanitarian duties in defence of the Kingdom and its values.
In recognition of the status and sacrifices of fallen servicemen, the Royal Fund for Fallen Servicemen was established by royal order in 2016, under the presidency of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The fund provides an institutional framework to support the families of fallen servicemen through dedicated programmes and initiatives, under royal care and continuous guidance.
Commemoration Day is observed through official and community initiatives, reflecting a shared commitment to loyalty, remembrance, and national unity, and reinforcing values of gratitude and national identity among future generations.
Commemoration activities begin on December 9 and continue through December 17, including the wearing of the razji flower, a symbol of Commemoration Day, worn on the left side of the chest in recognition of the noble sacrifices of fallen servicemen.
The annual commemoration concludes on December 17 with official ceremonies held under the patronage of His Majesty the King at Al Sakhir Palace, with the attendance of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister and senior officials. On this occasion, His Majesty the King waters a palm tree, symbolising everlasting remembrance and the enduring legacy of Bahrain’s fallen servicemen.
Commemoration Day remains a lasting national occasion to honour sacrifice, uphold loyalty, and renew commitment to the values for which Bahrain’s fallen heroes gave their lives.
