Malaysia, Kenya Red Cross to Explore Deeper Humanitarian Cooperation - Malaysian PM

By Saraswathi Muniappan

NAIROBI, Nov 24 (Bernama) --  Malaysia is set to explore deeper collaboration with the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), particularly in training, capacity-building and knowledge-sharing, to ensure no community is left behind during disasters and crises, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Monday.

“May this effort benefit people in both countries and strengthen our shared humanitarian mission,” he said in a statement following a meeting with KRCS secretary-general Dr Ahmed Idris, a figure with an outstanding record in humanitarian work, public policy and international law.

Anwar said that during their meeting, he and Dr Ahmed exchanged views on the KRCS’s role in protecting vulnerable communities, strengthening disaster preparedness and improving policy frameworks to address increasingly complex humanitarian challenges.

“I was also informed that the Kenya Red Cross is a highly influential and respected institution, including within the Muslim community, making it an effective platform to promote the values of humanity and compassion,” Anwar noted.

The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for Dr Ahmed’s dedication to advancing humanitarian priorities in Kenya and across the African region.

“Malaysia has always believed that a nation’s strength is measured not only by physical development, but also by its commitment to compassion, justice and human dignity,” he added.
