[APEC 2025] K-food experience opportunities galore across APEC summit venues

GYEONGJU, South Korea, Oct. 28 (Yonhap) -- The government and local companies will showcase popular Korean food products during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) gathering in the southeastern city of Gyeongju this week, with an aim to further boost the global popularity of Korean cuisine, officials said Tuesday.
The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs will operate a K-food station near the venue for the APEC summit, the Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center, for four days, starting Wednesday, to introduce Korean desserts, such as "hotteok," a Korean pancake filled with brown sugar, and traditional refreshments to foreign visitors, according to ministry officials.
At the station, 13 Korean food companies will also exhibit food products with halal certification, exploring export opportunities.
Separately, major food enterprises, including CJ Cheiljedang Corp. and Nongshim Co., will supply their globally popular products and run food trucks for participants of APEC-related events.
CJ plans to offer various products under its signature brand bibigo, including instant rice cups, "tteokbokki" and dried seaweed snacks, while Nongshim is set to operate a booth to hand out its best-selling Shin Ramyun instant noodles, featuring characters from the smash-hit animated film "KPop Demon Hunters."
Tteokbokki is a spicy Korean street food made with rice cakes.
Kyochon, one of South Korea's leading fried chicken brands, also plans to run a food truck to serve its signature menu items.
"The upcoming APEC summit is a golden opportunity to promote Korea's culture and charm to the world," Agriculture Minister Song Mi-ryung said, vowing to showcase the "unforgettable taste of Korea" during the event.
The official APEC summit is slated to run Friday and Saturday, while an array of side events are scheduled throughout this week, including the APEC CEO Summit and a future-tech forum.
